A brand manufacturer in today’s economic environment has at least two challenges to meet. On the one hand, staffing levels must correspond to current and future production volumes and, on the other hand, employees must be able to adapt to changing requirements. Not only must employees be more flexible and able to operate in a number of capacities, but they must also acquire new skills continuously to be able to cope with the introduction of modern production technologies.
A training drive is planned for all employees. The goal is that everyone understands the company’s entire production process. The employees’ immediate supervisors play a key role in this process, acting as their subordinates’ in-house trainers. These trainers were themselves prepared at length for their role during a three day preparatory training session. Then, in a first phase of the training, all employees were introduced to the production process while the company was operating under reduced hours.
The following training sessions will serve to increase flexibility by teaching employees step by step how to operate other workstations.
The procedure was very well accepted both by the in-house trainers and the employees. The participants were often heard to say things along the lines of “Finally something is happening!” and “We should have done this a long time ago!”
